In basis of the movie is a recital of revolt on an ironclad "Count Potemkin" in 1905 . The inhabitants of Odessa supported the revolt of sailors, that resulted in the bloody shooting of crowd Tsar's troops.

The Premiere of the film took place 18/01/26 in the First National Movie Theatre.

The Battleship Potyomkin has been called one of the most influential propaganda films of all time , and was named the greatest film of all time at the World's Fair at Brussels, Belgium, in 1958.
