In basis of the movie is a recital of revolt on an ironclad "Count Potemkin" in 1905 . The people of Odessa supported the revolt of sailors, that resulted in the bloody shooting of a crowd by the Tsar's troops.

The Battleship Potemkin has been called one of the most influential propaganda films of all time , and was named the greatest film of all time at the World's Fair at Brussels, Belgium, in 1958.
